I too work for my wife. Example of work, doing laundry, taking kid to his day care, grocery , cleaning etc... The specific answers are below
1. Can "A" work for his wife and also get paid in check?

2. Can "A" have a second job in his wife's company and retain his original job?

1. If you are still with university and the H1 is valid, you are not out of status.
2. If you are out of university and if company A's H1 is valid, you can start work with company A.
If you are out of university and company A's H1 is valid, but you are not getting job or salary - you are out of status
If you are out of university and company A's H1 is not valid, you are out of stats.
Please check with attorney asap.

However as someone else said about stamping and getting over the out of status period issues is not correct, if at any point you were out of status (no salary or no valid i-94 (white card or the 797)), it may come back to haunt you during GC process.
Without getting into the risk/debate of whether you were counted for cap when "A" filed for your H1, in order to file with another employer "C", it is advisable to work for "A" if they have a valid H1 filed for you and if you have just left the University employer without any delay and consult with an attorney to remedy the out of status issue for the period since you left the Univ. employer. And as always, if you think you were helped by the senior members here, please consider helping IV by donating to your own cause as soon as you get a project / back on track. Thank You.

Help!
I divorced my husband after 14 months of marriage. I have a green card with conditional residency (the I-751 90 day 'window' to remove conditions starts Sept 2010). My husband was abusive mentally and physically, I have no contact with him.
I cannot prove the abuse definitively as I covered it up at the time (no photos or police reports, only my testimony and perhaps that of the counselors we saw together). The advice I have received on how to proceed has been conflicting; some say wait and apply during the 90 day window to remove the conditions and it MIGHT be ok; some say I need to file now and prove the abuse.
I have no money for a lawyer as my husband also stole most of my money and I just got laid off as well. Any ideas?!? Does anyone know if it is riskier to try and prove the abuse or how hard that is and if I'm more likely to lose my green card that way? Is there any way at all do to this without thousands to spend on a lawyer?

I filed my labor three years ago with a requirement of BS + a minimum of a one year experience (I had 4 years of US experience and 6 ys experience abroad at that time -feb 2005-).
Now that I filed I-485 more than 180 days ago and I have a job offer that pays double of what is mentioned in the Labor (which the lawyer said is not a problem) , I still have an issue and is the following: in the description mentions as requirement "BS + minimum of 5 ys experience".
My lawyer said that although I have been in U.S. working with same position and same job title for 7 ys, that to be same or similar they should require similar experience than what was required at the moment my labor was filed: ie, BS + not more than 2 years experience,... Is this true? Did anyone experience this? The employer is a big corporation and cannot change that the job description to match the minimum years of experience. The duties are 90% similar and the job title is exactly the same.
The lawyer said that after labor was filed three years ago, that we could not count from that moment on an increased experience, with that I mean the minimum years of experience of the job in 2005 was 1 (although my resume on my labor showed 10 ys of experience) and he said that we cannot say that in 2005 was a minimun one year so you could gain experience on the job and convert it into a job with a minimumn of 4 years being same or similar). Why did you submit pay stubs for 2+ years? Is it not enough if we submit for last 3 or 6 months?

Chris, Can you change the title. This is actually good news. USCIS is coming out with some real solutions now. It is known quite for some time that USCIS data capturing is so poor, they can not sort and order AOS applications on PD. We know how they issued GCs to 2006 PD ahead of 2002/2003 PDs this august. If this email thing works correctly, we can expect steady movement of cut off dates in future instead of wild jumps back and forth.

Houston is the best. Lovely weather, Really "BIG" city so you can get or do whatever you want. The metro system is not the best but if you only need it to commute to work(downtown) then no problem. By the way they don't give a crap about driver's licenses in houston, too many applications. They'll give you 6yrs easily on ur license.

I did my pictures @ photopeople (studio) upwards of 80 bucks for me wife and son. Well I was still not satisfied.
So setup my own studio at home. A white sheet (ironed) and my Canon G6 on a tripod did a fantastic job. Took about 50 pics and finalised 1 for each. Next step was to get it in 2x2 format, In photoshop rescaled image to a height of 2 without messing with width (auto). The cropped extra width to make it 2 inches.
did a new canvas 6x4 inches in photoshop and pasted 6 copies 2x2 each (2rows of 3). Printed at instant machine at cvs $2 for 36 pictures total. I am happy with overall quality now.
And BTW I am not a web designer or a graphic designer. I am an Oracle DBA. So I am pretty sure anyone can do that provided you have some graphic editing/layout software. The only place where photoshop comes handy is exacting the size which would be difficult to do in vanilla paint in windows.
Recommended only if you are not getting a good picture even after spending ton of money.
Another tip is To avoid any shadows stand farther away from background (sheet in this case) and do it in daytime with blinds open with you facing a window or a patio/backyard door. Also zoom in to get exactly what you are looking for while shooting that way less cropping is needed. Try not to use the Flash (use it only if you are getting a shadow inspite of stading at a distance from the background.)
Also please go by instructions / specifications on the pictures as per following.

Please let me know the way to contact USCIS. Phone number or mail id. I tried contacting them through the 1800 number but it is an automated system, there is no human to talk to.
I had problem with I94 and used the services of USCIS field office (San Jose) to get it fixed.
If you want to follow my approach, you may find field office using this URL, get an appointment there, discuss it (that you are in US and check your records, if shows outside US, get it updated) and handover I-102.

msp1976, I found out that it would take at least a month to get a new passport (is this right?), and I did not have time for it. I'll be sure to post my experience here.

I have heard of people getting passport in 1 day or so in New York...But you have to go in person.....The mail service would take longer....
Also once they give you a stanp for the whole duration.. as someone mentioned earlier...you need to carry the old passport and the new booklet they give you...That works out just fine.....
About what happnes at the POE depneds on the USCIS officer....It is just a draw of luck..
